After a month-long delay due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Apple finally announced its latest family of iPhones during a virtual online event Tuesday. They include the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro, and all feature 5G connectivity, a magnetic backing branded as MagSafe that can attach to a number of accessories and a new ceramic display that promises to be more durable.
· Prices and colors:
- iPhone 12 Mini (5.4 inches): Starting at $699, 64G/128G/256G; finish - black, white, red, blue, green
- iPhone 12 (6.1 inches): Starting at $799, 64G/128G/256G; finish - black, white, red, blue, green
- iPhone 12 Pro (6.1 inches): Starting at $999, 128G/256G/512G; finish - gold, silver, graphite, pacific blue
- iPhone 12 Pro Max (6.7 inches): Starting at $1099, 128G/256G/512G; finish - gold, silver, graphite, pacific blue
· Display and Resolutions:
- iPhone 12 models all feature a Super Retina XDR display, all-screen OLED display, HDR display, True Tone display, wide color display, 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio (typical), 1200 nits max brightness (HDR) and oil and fingerprint resistant coating.
- iPhone 12 mini comes with a 5.4 inches of capacitive touchscreen, 2340x1080 resolution (476 PPI), and iPhone 12 comes with a 6.1 inches of capacitive touchscreen, 2532x1170 resolution (460 PPI). They both offer a standard 625 nits max brightness.
- iPhone 12 Pro comes with a 6.1 inches of capacitive touchscreen, 2532×1170 resolution (460 PPI), and iPhone 12 Pro Max comes with a 6.7 inches of capacitive touchscreen, 2778×1284 resolution(458PPI). They both offer a standard 800 nits max brightness.
· Body:
- iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 include a Ceramic Shield front cover, glass back and aerospace-grade aluminum enclosure.
- iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max include a Ceramic Shield front cover, matte glass back and surgical-grade stainless steel enclosure.
- All models’ depth is 0.29 inch (7.4 mm), and their width are 2.53 inches (64.2 mm), 2.82 inches (71.5 mm), 2.82 inches (71.5 mm), 3.07 inches (78.1 mm).
- All have a rating of IP68 under IEC standard 60529 (maximum depth of 6 meters up to 30 minutes).
· Chip and capacity
- iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 are available in 64/128/256GB.
- iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max are available in 128/256/512GB.
- All of them are equipped with A14 Bionic chip.
· Camera:
- iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12’s dual 12MP camera system (Ultra Wide and Wide). Ultra Wide: ƒ/2.4 aperture, 5P Lens Modules; Wide: ƒ/1.6 aperture, 7P Lens Modules.
Each offers 2x optical zoom out and 5x digital zoom with OIS (optical image stabilization), Portrait mode, portrait lighting, Panorama, Night mode, and adopts deep fusion, lens correction (to Ultra Wide).
Both can shoot HDR video with Dolby Vision up to 30 fps, 4K video at 24 fps, 30 fps, or 60 fps, 1080p HD video at 30 fps or 60 fps (extended dynamic range). Each offers 2x optical zoom out and digital zoom up to 3x with OIS, slo-mo video support for 1080p at 120 fps or 240 fps.
- iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max’s Pro 12 MP camera system (Ultra Wide, Wide, and Telephoto). Telephoto: ƒ/2.0 aperture (Pro) or ƒ/2.2 aperture (Pro Max), 6P Lens Modules, and OIS (Pro Max has sensor-shift OIS).
iPhone 12 Pro camera offers 4x optical zoom range (2x optical zoom in, 2x optical zoom out) and 10x digital zoom; iPhone 12 Pro Max camera offers 5x optical zoom range (2.5x optical zoom in, 2x optical zoom out) and 12x digital zoom.
LiDAR makes Night mode portraits possible. iPhone 12 Pro models also feature the new Apple ProRAW.
Compared to iPhone 12 models, Pro and Pro Max support HDR video recording with Dolby Vision up to 60 fps, 4x optical zoom range and 6x digital zoom (Pro), 5x optical zoom range and 7x digital zoom (Pro Max).
· Front camera
All iPhone 12 models have the front camera with 12MP photos, ƒ/2.2 aperture, similar video recording specifications to iPhone mini and 12, faster Face ID.
· GPS:
Built-in GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, and BeiDou
· Power and battery:
- Up to 50% charge in 30 minutes with 20W adapter or higher (sold separately).
- MagSafe and Qi wireless charging with maximum power of 15 W and 7.5 W.
- Video playback: 15/17/17/20 hours; Streamed video playback: 10/11/11/12 hours; Audio playback: 50/65/65/80 hours.
