It’s very common for a company to launch a sequel after they released a successful game. Some of the sequels are well-made and complete in content, inheriting the high quality of the previous work and opening the door of a promising future line; while some of them are reduced to a poor finish, which usually can be seen in the terrible plot and video quality.
At the time when the big promotion of Halloween is coming, we have selected some of the most worth-buying game series on Steam. Almost each of them have three or more standalone games, and none of them will push your buttons.
The Elder Scrolls
This series can be regarded as a model of fantasy RPGs. There are 5 games in the whole series, plus 1 online game. Its popularity rises with the release of each one, and it reached its peak in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
If you just want to experience it, I will recommend you to only buy The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The whole series is such a big meal for newcomers after all. As for The Elder Scrolls Online, despite its rich content and favorable comments, if you mind its problematic skill mechanism and server issues, do not buy it.
Devil May Cry
The Devil May Cry series is one of the masterpieces of ACT Games. If I tell you it was launched by Capcom, the king of fighting games and reheating, you can know the quality with your eyes closed. The first installment in this series is Devil May Cry, 2001 and the last one is Devil May Cry 5, 2019.
The first few of this series are thrown into the PC platform without optimizing, so there is always the problem of resolution. If you mind, I recommend you the works after Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition. Devil May Cry 5 is a must buy. It is definitely a masterpiece.
Assassin’s Creed
The Assassin's Creed series comes from Ubisoft Entertainment, and it can be regarded as Ubisoft's signature product, but it should be noted that a major development feature of Ubisoft is the joint development of multiple studios, such as Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag by the Montreal studio and Assassin's Creed: Odyssey by the Quebec studio.

The Witcher
The Witcher series was created by the Polish company CD Projekt RED. The whole series consists of 3 titles, all of which are RPG games. Both the first two titles include an enhanced edition with all DLC. The series has ended and no sequel will be released.
The release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt made The Witcher series surge in popularity and have gained more than 800 awards from major game media, driving gamers cried away by wild joy.
The most incredible thing is that CD Projekt RED has made two giant DLCs of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with the attitude of making them a new game. That’s great. Gamers has gone crazy.
Playing the whole series all at one breath will definitely bring you sense of comfort and pleasure, so I recommend you to buy the entire series. If you still mind the sense of age and old fashioned operation, then buy The Witcher: Wild Hunt only. Note that you correctly buy The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt-Game of the Year Edition, or you will regret it.
Of course, The Witcher series are classic European and American fantasy works, so it’s serious , detailed, and with huge text volume. Gamers who hate slow-paced games should not buy them.
Torchlight
Torchlight series was originally developed and published by Runic Games, then developed by Echtra and released by Perfect World, so its reputation has fluctuated.
This series is small in size but rich in content. However, since it is a stand-alone work, the picture quality is not flattering.
Torchlight II supports online play, and has made a lot of improvements to the previous game. The overall feeling is more like an adventure. Although there is no special surprise, it is very addictive after familiarity.
NEKOPARA
The NEKOPARA series was developed by NEKO WORKs and published by Sekai Project. Its reputation, well, needless to say, can be described as “My brothers all love it.” It is so welcomed on Steam. The sequel NEKOPARAVol. 4 will be available on Steam in November 2020.

Tomb Raider
The whole series has 11 titles, plus 1 remake. It has always been well-received. The protagonist Laura is even more popular. She is widely known as an evergreen tree in action-adventure games and a heavyweight IP under SE.
Although the reputation is good and bad, its overall preference is positive. Although none of them can reach the level of a masterpiece of all time, but the best ones such as Tomb Raider, the first work of the three second era games, can still be among the top.
If you are full of Tomb Raider emotion or a fan of collection, you can directly buy the Tomb Raider Collection bundle, which is very cheap. Resident Evil

Call of Duty
The Call of Duty series is the largest, heaviest, and highest-selling core IP under Activision. The new sequel Call of Duty 17: Black Ops Cold War will be released on November 13, 2020, not available on Steam platform though.
The popularity of this series is self-evident. Even if the reputation of the later works declines sharply, millions of copies are still easily sold each year, which overwhelms most games.
My personal advice is to buy Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2-3, Call of Duty: BlackOps 1-3, Call of Duty: World at War, Call of Duty: InfiniteWarfare, and Call of Duty: WWII. In this way, you can fully experience the modern warfare trilogy, the black ops trilogy, and the three independent works, basically eliminating the works with too much sense of age and poor reputation.
