“According to NHK, Universal Studios Japan (USJ) has decided to postpone the opening of Super Nintendo World indefinitely over concerns that its popularity could cause a spike in Covid-19 coronavirus infections.”
The video game-themed area was originally scheduled to open in this autumn, and now a new opening date has yet to be announced. Insiders said that the closure of the entire park had affected the preparation for the opening. For fear that Super Nintendo World would draw huge crowds, allowing the coronavirus to spread, the opening time will be postponed, possibly to 2021 at the latest.
In 2016, Nintendo announced its cooperation with Universal Studios to build "Super Nintendo World" theme parks in Osaka, Orlando and Hollywood. On June 7, 2017, the construction of the theme park officially started.
There will be two theme games: Super Mario Kart and Yoshi. Featured by scenes of Super Mario Bros in the game, it also presents the popular characters and classic scenes of Nintendo games, as well as the world's first Mario Kart theme roller coaster. Visitors can also link their Nintendo accounts to Switch through smartphone applications.
From the aerial photos taken by netizens, it can be found that the construction of Super Nintendo World has been basically completed, and the design materials are almost the same as those of the game. If you don't look at the buildings behind, you will even think you are in the game.
The company reopened the theme park itself on June 8 by only welcoming visitors from the local Kansai area and effectively limiting their number to about half of the usual figure. Also a video was placed on the official website to publicize the precautions for entering the park, hoping that tourists should pay attention to the prevention and control of the epidemic while playing.
