What’s New to Netflix this Week (August 10 - August 16)?

Have you listed what to watch on Netflix for this weekend? A queue of new shows have come this week including The Legend of Korra (a sequel series to Avatar: The Last Airbender) and Les Misérables. Let's take a look at this week's new Netflix movie list, as well as some of the new movies in September that are worth looking forward to. 

August 10

Nightcrawler


A high score film in 2014. It tells an idle gangster who does some sneaky activities all day long. By chance, he witnessed the work of a photojournalist, and found a business opportunity. He decided to become a freelance photojournalist, shooting bloodier, more powerful, and more eye-catching news scenes. In order to obtain precious first-hand information, Louis even "do the job himself." 

The Lost Husband

A drama film in 2020 that adapted from Katherine Center’s novel of the same name. It tells after the death of her husband, Libby became a widow. She and her children had to forget their pain and start a new life. After consideration, they chose to live with Libby's aunt and settled on a farm. Soon, a nice man approached the family... 

August 11

Mr. Peabody & Sherman

A cartoon film full of science fiction and comedy elements. It tells a unique puppy successfully developed new energy sources, founded its own company, and adopted a human orphan. It used the time machine he had developed to take the orphan back to every important moment in the future and experience the boring historical events in the books. They embarked on a thrilling space-time adventure.

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl

A film adapted from the biography of the first Indian Air Force pilot Gunjan Saxena. 

Scary Movie 5

The fifth season of a comedy horror spoof film. A happy newlyweds adopted three nephews. But in their new home, various weird incidents happened one after another. The family opened the door to hilarious and terrifying... 

(Un)Well

This docu-series takes a deep dive into the billion-dollar wellness industry, some of which have even been questioned as thriving because of human weakness. 

August 13

Safety Not Guaranteed

A romantic comedy film with the science fiction element of time and space travel. It tells three magazine employees head out on an assignment to interview a guy who placed a classified advertisement seeking a companion for time travel. One of them succeeded in gaining his trust, and gradually understood his sensitivity, loss, and the reasons for wanting to go back to the past. 

August 14

3% Season 4

A return for dystopia series. The story is set in a desolate dystopian future era, where most of the population lives in crowded and dirty urban shacks, accompanied by poverty all their lives. But there is a "procedure" that allows a small group of people, or to be exact, 3% percent of the world's population, to go to mysterious "overseas" locations to live a good life. All candidates have experienced difficult physical and mental tests in this "procedure", and few people can really complete those cruel challenges. 

Project Power

The mysterious new pill could unlock the unique superpowers of each user. But no one knew what would happen after taking it. Some people would evolve bulletproof skin, invisibility and super strength, and many would show more deadly reactions. A local police, a girl hawker and a veteran soldier teamed up and  risked taking the pill to track and stop the team that made the pill. 

Teenage Bounty Hunters

A drama film of comedy and crime. It tells the twin sisters teamed up with a senior bounty hunter to capture those who jumped bail, but they also had to deal with their own teenage life. 

The Legend of Korra

The sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender, full of fantastic elements. 

August 15

The Game

It tells stories of a group of women who all have relationships with professional football players. A game night turns series in this film. 

August 16

Johnny English

The Intelligence Service received news that the bad guys were planning to steal the British crown. But the top agents were all sacrificed, and in desperation, they had to send a rookie agent-Johnny English. Johnny wasn’t wise and brave at all, but he had advanced weapons and the ability to gossip. Can Johnny finally defend the dignity of the British royal family? 

Les Misérables

A film version of a classic Broadway play featuring Hugh Jackman and a long shot solo of Anne Hathaway. 

Seventh Son

The film takes place in a magical world where magic is commonplace. Young Thomas was born with strange abilities, always able to see what was about to happen in the future in a coma. After foreseeing future disasters, Thomas must become stronger as soon as possible to vanish the dark queen. 

With the release of some announcements and news, we can now look forward to some new Netflix movies in September. 

September 1

The Promised Neverland

A nicely produced animated film full of mysteries and surprises. It tells Grace Farm House was a place where children without parents lived. Even if there was no blood relationship, here was an irreplaceable home where they could live a happy life with their mother and 38 brothers and sisters. However, their daily routine suddenly came to an end one day. 

September 16

The Devil All The Time

It tells how corruption and depravity were rampant in this beautiful but trembling town from World War II to the Vietnam War. Willard Russell, the protagonist, desperately wanted to save his dying wife even if he had to sacrifice, and his son was growing from a child abused in school to a man who knows when to take action.
